TRADITIONS REVISITED: MODERN ESTONIAN KNITS by ALEKS BYRD

Aleks Byrd's Traditions Revisited – Modern Estonian Knits is an introduction to Estonian knitting, both traditional and tradition-inspired. For a small country on the Baltic Sea, Estonia’s tradition and love for handicraft greatly surpasses its size. Estonian knitting is all about techniques, embellishment and regionality, with each knit telling a story about the knitter and where they live. This book includes 19 patterns across its 216 pages, ranging from mittens to sweaters that blend seamlessly with modern knitting styles. Each of the patterns includes both charts and written instructions with all sweaters and cardigans in 10 sizes, fitting a bust circumference from approximately 32" up to 66" at minimum.

Aleks Byrd, whose roots are in Estonia, Canada and the USA, is a knitwear designer based in Bath, UK. In addition to her knitwear design, she works as an illustrator and teaches Estonian knitting techniques around the world. In this book, Aleks wants to make traditional Estonian techniques accessible to everyone, while building a bridge between Estonian knitters and the international knitting community. In seeking to do this, this book includes detailed, illustrated tutorials for 5 traditional Estonian knitting techniques alongside her stunning patterns. This is the perfect introduction to Estonian knitting for a beginner or an experienced knitter looking to learn from an expert and pick up a new style!
