If you want to customise the width, then add or subtract sts in multiples of 32 sts when you cast on. For example, after you work the first WS row, there are 220 [316] sts. If you want a smaller blanket then aim for a stitch count of 156 or 188 sts at the end of the first WS row. Then, you will be ready for Row 1 with your custom stitch count for a smaller blanket.
