Big Little Yarn Co. is a Japanese American indie yarn brand born in the summer of 2020, when founder and dyer Melanie Asato channelled the stillness of a global pandemic into something vibrant and enduring. Operating from her studio in Hyogo, Japan, Melanie hand-dyes each skein with special passion and care.

At the heart of Big Little Yarn Co. is a deeply personal story: of two cultures, two homelands, and the colourways that weave them together. Growing up Japanese American, Melanie draws on the textures, palettes, and spirit of both California and Japan, sharing a little of her heritage with every dye lot. Each colourway is made with intention and warmth, designed to pass those feelings on to the makers who work with them.
