About Hex

West Wool's Hex is a hand-dyed fingering-weight yarn that blends superfine merino with nylon for a fabric that’s soft next to the skin yet strong and durable in wear — ideal for socks, shawls, lightweight sweaters, and any project where you want both drape and resilience. Its tonal, hand-dyed palette was developed to coordinate beautifully across colours and inspire creative combinations. Hex’s balanced construction gives crisp stitch definition and a smooth feel on the needles, making it a joy to knit and wear.

About West Wool

We are West Wool, a yarn brand born from our love of beautiful natural fibres and vibrant colour. Based in the heart of Amsterdam, we create hand-dyed and carefully curated yarns designed to inspire makers everywhere and bring a little more Handknit Happiness into the world. Our journey began in 2019 when we realised a long-held dream of launching our own yarn line through our yarn boutique, Stephen & Penelope, blending our passion for colour, craft, and community.

For us, it’s not just about yarn — it’s about connection. We’re committed to sustainability, knowing exactly where our materials come from and how they are made, and to fostering an inclusive community where everyone feels welcome to explore their creativity. With a painterly palette across multiple bases and colours, we aim to support knitters and crocheters in making joyful, lasting pieces that speak to personal expression and shared craft.

Hand Dyed Yarn

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.

Care Instructions

Items made from this superwash wool/nylon blend should be washed by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a gentle rinse-free detergent. Wash gently but never wring or twist when washing.
Gently squeeze as much water as possible, roll in a towel and press moisture out. Then lay your finished piece flat to dry, blocking to shape.

We recommend washing even superwash wool by hand, as it will extend the life of your precious hand made items!

Qualitites of 85% Superwash Merino 15% Nylon

Superwash Wool Nylon blends combine the benefits of 100% natural and sustainable wool with the sturdiness of Nylon. This makes the yarn a good choice for snuggly socks, accessories and garments. With such a high percentage of wool, this yarn will be very soft and warm

Breathable
Great for socks and garments as well as accessories like shawls
Soft and warm
Wicks moisture to the centre of the fibre keeping the fabric surface dry, even when damp

Dull color that lacks depth.

Dull color that lacks depth.
A disappointment compared to the photos.
That's a shame.

I'm sorry to hear you are disappointed in the colour variation of the Hex yarn in the colour Seahorse you ordered. The beauty but also sometimes the downside of hand-dyed yarn is that it has variations. Some batches will come out slightly darker, lighter, more orange, or just different than other batches.
