Single Merino - Contemplate Into The Heart Of Ocean

Single Merino is a beautiful merino base from Shangdrok - a single ply yarn available in a wide and carefully considered range of hand dyed colours. The choice to spin it as a single ply is a deliberate and meaningful one — without the twist of multiple plies to muddy or compress the colour, the dye sits on the fibre in the most direct and unmediated way possible, resulting in finished projects that are noticeably more vivid and luminous than you might achieve with a plied equivalent. It's a yarn that really does let the colour speak. And colour, for Shangdrok, is everything — the driving inspiration behind the brand is the idea of taking colours that exist first in the imagination and finding a way to bring them into the real world, translated faithfully onto fibre. There's something genuinely creative and personal in that approach, and you can feel it in the finished skeins, which have a depth and intentionality that sets them apart. For projects where colour is the star — whether bold and saturated or soft and painterly — this merino base gives it the best possible stage.

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.

• We recommend that items made from 100% Superwash Wool be washed by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a gentle rinse-free detergent. Never wring or twist woollen pieces when washing.
• Gently squeeze as much water as possible, roll in a towel and press moisture out. Then lay your finished piece flat to dry.

Wool does not need to be washed after every wear as it is a natural, breathable product. When you can see (or, rarely, smell) that a woollen item is in need of washing, follow the above instructions

You may ask why we suggest hand washing superwash knits. While you should be able to wash superwash knits in a more conventional way, we believe that superwash wool benefits from gentle care, as it will extend the life of your precious hand knit items!
