About Ballyhoura

Ballyhoura Fibres is a vibrant small‑batch indie yarn brand based in County Limerick, Ireland, founded and hand‑dyed by maker Cierra. With roots in her self‑taught knitting journey and inspiration drawn from nature, travel, and the landscapes around her, Cierra creates colourways that feel personal, expressive, and crafted with joy. The company is proudly BIPOC and woman‑owned and operated, and strives to make its space welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring for all makers.

Ballyhoura Fibres offers a range of hand‑dyed yarns — from soft superwash merino sock and versatile DK bases to unique fibres — all dyed in small batches with careful attention to quality and colour harmony. Many of their fibres are sourced from cruelty‑free mills where mulesing is not practised, reflecting the brand’s commitment to ethical sourcing and thoughtful craft.

With richly pigmented skeins that bring texture and personality to handmade projects, Ballyhoura Fibres invites knitters and crocheters to explore creativity and colour through yarn that feels as welcoming and spirited as the community it celebrates.

Why you'll love Hand Dyed Yarn

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.

Care Instructions

Items made from this superwash wool/nylon blend should be washed by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a gentle rinse-free detergent. Wash gently but never wring or twist when washing.
Gently squeeze as much water as possible, roll in a towel and press moisture out. Then lay your finished piece flat to dry, blocking to shape.

We recommend washing even superwash wool by hand, as it will extend the life of your precious hand made items!

Benefits of this Yarn

Superwash Wool Nylon blends combine the benefits of 100% natural and sustainable wool with the sturdiness of Nylon. This makes the yarn a good choice for snuggly socks, accessories and garments. With such a high percentage of wool, this yarn will be very soft and warm
