About the Role
Stephen & Penelope is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Assistant Manager to lead our Amsterdam store team. If you have a passion for crafting, strong leadership skills, and a desire to build and develop a high-performing team in a retail environment, this is the perfect role for you.
As a key member of the store leadership team, you’ll work closely with the Store Manager to oversee overall store performance, team development, and operations. You’ll play a central role in driving sales, shaping the customer experience, and ensuring the team is supported, motivated, and set up for success.

Key Objectives
Lead and motivate the retail team to achieve sales targets while delivering excellent customer service, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment. Ensure smooth day-to-day operations and maintain a welcoming in-store atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
Lead and inspire the retail team, setting daily goals and fostering a collaborative working environment. Support the Store Manager in driving sales performance and achieving store targets. Take ownership of daily operations, ensuring consistency and efficiency across all areas. Support scheduling, team planning, and performance management. Monitor KPIs and proactively identify opportunities to improve results. Ensure visual merchandising and store standards align with brand expectations.
Skills and Technical Requirements
Proven experience in a retail supervisor or management role. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a diverse team. Exceptional customer service and communication skills. Proficient in handling POS systems, stock management software, and cash handling. Intermediate knitting knowledge is a must and knowledge of crafting, fibres, and the products we sell is highly desirable. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced retail environment, with excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.

Availability for 32-38 hours per week, based in our Central Amsterdam store. Please note: this is an in-store role—remote working is not available.
Competitive pay – Earn €18.00 per hour, paid breaks, vakantiegeld and holiday pay. You’ll also get company pension, a generous shop discount, and the chance to work with the best team ever!

As a Store Supervisor, you lead the team during your shifts and ensure the day-to-day running of the store is smooth, welcoming, and customer-focused. You’ll work closely with the Assistant Manager and Store Manager to bring plans to life on the shop floor and create an inspiring environment for our community.

Key Objectives
Support the successful day-to-day operation of the store by leading the team on the shop floor, delivering excellent customer service, and ensuring a smooth and engaging in-store experience.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
Lead the team on the shop floor during assigned shifts, ensuring a positive and productive working environment. Deliver and maintain exceptional customer service, supporting customers with product selection and crafting advice. Act as the first point of contact for Sales Associates during shifts and provide feedback. Support the execution of daily sales goals and help drive performance through active selling. Handle customer queries and resolve issues in a professional and friendly manner. Assist with stock processes, including deliveries, replenishment, and organisation of inventory. Ensure the store is well-presented, clean, and aligned with visual merchandising standards. Support opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and POS use.
Skills and Technical Requirements
Proven experience in a retail environment; previous keyholder or supervisory experience is a plus. Strong customer service and communication skills. Confidence in supporting and guiding team members on the shop floor. Comfortable with POS systems, stock handling, and day-to-day store operations. Intermediate knitting knowledge is a must and interest in crafting, fibres, and our product range is highly desirable. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay organised under pressure.
