This year's Westknits Yarn A Long is inspired by fresh florals with lush and harmonious hand dyed yarn palettes and radiant pops of color. Each month in May, June, and July you will receive a curated collection of custom colors to knit a brand new shawl. Each yarn package contains surprise semi-solid and speckled colorways dyed on super soft wool or wool blend bases. You can expect a range of shades like coral, gold, and pink to blue and purple flashes of color. There will be some soft, sophisticated, and subtle tones as well that will take your breath away. Each yarn package also includes special knitting related gifts designed by Malia Mae Joseph inspired by our Flora theme.
Our three featured dyers contributed a beautiful bouquet of custom colors for you to knit each shawl throughout the summer months. We love designing these Yarn A Long packages and including exciting new knitting techniques for you to try. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn something new as we surprise you with gorgeous hand dyed color palettes and coordinating accessories and tools.
The Yarn A Long 2022 theme was Collaboration and Connectivity with the colour story of neutrals with a pop. Our YAL pals received three stunning palettes combining delicate neutral shades with a bold pop of colour. In the spirit of collaboration each Yarn Along kit used skeins from two different dyers in the same shawl!
The Yarn A Long 2021 theme was jewels and brights. Participants got to select all bright yarn kits or all jewel toned color palettes. Mominoki create gorgeous color pop kits for the Shawl Party pattern, which featured one main color with five contrast color pops.
This Yarn A Long was the first season where you, the knitter, got to choose which color story you received. Instead of designing one color palette for each shawl, Stephen collaborated with the dyers on two custom palettes. Members received either all warm colors or all cool colors.
Malia and Stephen launched their first yarn, West Wool, so this YAL celebrated the West Wool launch by featuring their fingering weight Bicycle base in each package. Each month included a hand dyed custom colorway that coordinated with one of our West Wool solid colorways.
