Kits launch on November 4 at 16:00 Amsterdam time, (check what time that is for you here) and knitting starts December 26.

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we have seen in our other KALs. If you have read all of these and you still don't have an answer to your question, contact

Knit Alongs (KALs) are a fun, social activity in which a group of knitters all make the same project in a specified timeframe. Our hosted knit alongs are complete with kits filled with the right yarn for the project, often in exclusive colours, and include exclusive or limited edition gifts to make the experience that much more exciting.

The Hiberknitalong will feature the Aurora Cabin Shawl. This year's HKAL kits includes a new print book called Hiberknitting 3, which contains eight Westknits patterns  including the Aurora Cabin Shawl pattern for the knit along.

December 26, 2022.  The perfect time for some hot cocoa and lazy fireplace gazing.

You can purchase the patterns by buying a copy of the Hiberknitting 3 print book here which includes a digital download code or as an ebook from Ravelry or You can also purchase the individual Aurora Cabin Shawl pattern on Ravelry or

The name of the HKAL pattern this year is Aurora Cabin Shawl. The pattern is included in the Hiberknitting 3 print book and e-book. The pattern is also available individually if you want to participate by just purchasing the shawl pattern.

The pattern is included in the Hiberknitting 3 book which comes with each Stephen & Penelope kit which launch on November and will be shipped throughout November.

There will be lots of fun chat in the HKAL 2022 Ravelry group and on Instagram with #Hiberknitalong2022.

The patterns are available in Hiberknitting 3 which you can purchase as an ebook or physical book. The print books include a digital download code for all eight patterns in the book.

The Aurora Cabin Shawl is suitable for adventurous beginners (you should already know how to knit, purl, increase, decrease, and read a pattern), and it will be enjoyable for seasoned knitters too. There is so much support throughout the KAL, so you will find a lot of help and tips on completing each section in the HKAL 2022 Ravelry group. There will be photo tutorials and videos where they are necessary to assist you with visualising the techniques and construction.

There is no brioche in this year's Hiberknitalong.

For this year's pattern, you'll need fingering weight yarn in five colours:

Colour A - 340yds / 311m

Colour B - 340yds / 311m

Colour C - 400yds / 366m

Colour D - 380yds / 347m

Colour E - 380yds / 347m

This shawl is designed for fingering weight yarn.

The Hiberknitalong shawls were designed with five semi-solid colours. You are welcome to use other types of colours and yarn styles for your shawl. Customise the colours and make it your own!

Yes of course! The Hiberknitalong is open to everyone, it's not necessary to buy a kit to participate. We're offering a limited amount of kits this year. If you want to knit from stash or partially from stash, then lookout for the Hiberknitalong introductory video on Stephen's YouTube channel to get some colour inspiration.

Yes! Our Hiberknitalong kits include a copy of Stephen West's newest book Hiberknitting 3. This beautiful print book is filled with inspiring photographs, artwork, and eight new knitting designs including the Aurora Cabin Shawl. Each print book includes a digital download code for the ebook.

Our system doesn’t hold stock that you have in your shopping cart. Your order is only confirmed once payment has been received. Our top tips for HKAL ordering is to add any extra items you'd like with your HKAL to your basket ahead of time and to make sure you already have a Stephen & Penelope account.

Because of the volume of orders, unfortunately it's not possible to wind yarn in HKAL kits.

All customers outside of the European Economic Area (whose order is shipped outside of the EEA) will have the sales tax deducted at check out. Once your address is added during the check out process, you will be shown your invoice without tax.

Read more about tax-free shopping.

Due to the volume of orders it's not possible to combine multiple orders that are placed for HKAL.

Due to the volume of orders we aren't able to hold orders to be shipped at a later date.

During the HKAL our orders can take a bit longer to ship out than usual but we'll be working hard to get your order out as soon as possible. We'll be shipping throughout November to ensure you get your kit before the December 26 cast on date!

Of course! You're more than welcome to purchase additional kits. Our top tip would be to add them to your cart using 'quick add' to avoid being taken straight to your shopping cart and away from the HKAL kit selection.

You can definitely order your kit to be picked up in store. However, it might take a few weeks for us to process the HKAL kit orders, so make sure you've received a message that your order is ready before heading to the shop. If you're unsure, you can always call ahead.

Yes! You can purchase the candle, notions nests and the book separately if you're using yarn from stash or patronising your LYS.

All of the gifts are included in our Stephen & Penelope curated HKAL kits.

If you've incorrectly input your address we can update it for you but please bear in mind it can cause delays to your order. Unfortunately, we're not able to change a shipment address once it has been sent.

Address changes, PO box addresses and non-Latin characters in your address might cause delays in receiving your order due to the systems our couriers use.
