About Alpaca Silk Fingering

Alpaca Silk Fingering from Big Little Yarn Co is a beautifully soft blend with a luminous sheen and flowing drape. The 70% alpaca brings warmth and a delicate halo, while 30% mulberry silk adds a smooth, silky feel. Soft against the skin and gently fuzzy at the surface, it creates a fabric with a lovely balance of softness and shine. This base is a perfect choice for shawls, flowing scarves, and relaxed garments where its drape and rich sheen can really stand out.

About Big Little Yarn Co.

Big Little Yarn Co. is a Japanese American indie yarn brand born in the summer of 2020, when founder and dyer Melanie Asato channelled the stillness of a global pandemic into something vibrant and enduring. Operating from her studio in Hyogo, Japan, Melanie hand-dyes each skein with special passion and care.

At the heart of Big Little Yarn Co. is a deeply personal story: of two cultures, two homelands, and the colourways that weave them together. Growing up Japanese American, Melanie draws on the textures, palettes, and spirit of both California and Japan, sharing a little of her heritage with every dye lot. Each colourway is made with intention and warmth, designed to pass those feelings on to the makers who work with them.

From cosy, comforting tones to bold, culturally inspired hues, Big Little Yarn Co. offers hand-dyed fibres that invite you to slow down, create something meaningful, and make it with love.

It is also available in 10 stunning custom colours - exclusive to Stephen & Penelope.

Why you'll love Hand Dyed Yarn

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.
