About Ramie Silk

Ramie silk is a yarn from Mominoki Yarn. The blend of soft wool and shiny silk is reinforced with ramie. This is a plant based fibre from East Asia that has been harvested by humans for more than 6000 years and is famous for its strength, even when wet. This results in a perfectly polyamide free yarn that is strong enough for socks. The skeins are then hand dyed with Mominoki's signature solid palette in Germany.

About Mominoki

Mominoki Yarn is a Berlin‑based indie yarn brand founded in 2017 by Chihiro, whose lifelong love of colour led her to begin hand‑dyeing yarn in her kitchen and share those vibrant creations with the world. The name Mominoki, meaning “fir tree” in Japanese, reflects the brand’s ethos of strength, endurance, and timeless craft, much like the natural landscapes that inspire its palettes.

Mominoki specialises in beautifully hand‑dyed yarns made from natural fibres sourced from Germany, Finland, and other parts of Europe. Each skein is carefully prepared, dyed, and finished by hand in their Berlin studio, with meticulous attention to even colour and quality. The result is yarn that not only delights makers with stunning hues but also knits into garments and accessories designed to be loved and worn for years.

Why you'll love Hand Dyed Yarn

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.

Care Instructions

Items made from wool, silk, ramie blends should be washed by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a gentle rinse-free detergent. Use very little agitation when washing so as not to felt or full the fabric. Never wring or twist handmade items when washing.
Gently squeeze as much water as possible, roll in a towel and press moisture out. Then lay your finished piece flat to dry.

This blend does not need to be washed after every wear as it is a natural, breathable product. When you can see (or, rarely, smell) that your item is in need of washing, follow the care instructions
