March 2026 - Maysa Tomikawa

Maysa Tomikawa designs simple knitwear using Portuguese-style garter stitch, a technique she learned from her grandmother. Growing up away from her homeland, knitting became a connection to her roots that continues to shape her work today.

Her patterns are intentionally simple, leaving space for each maker’s creativity. They invite exploration through colourwork, yarn combinations, and personal variations. Each design is easily customisable, so every knitter can create something that feels truly their own. She also offers both knitting and crochet versions of the same garment whenever possible, allowing makers to choose the technique that feels most natural in their hands.

Rather than overthinking, she encourages crafters to follow their intuition, working with yarns they already have, embracing spontaneity, and finding joy in the rhythm of making. Alongside her patterns, she also produces hand-spun yarns, inviting a more tactile and elemental connection to the craft.

Through her designs and yarns, Maysa creates space for personal moments of making, where garments are shaped not only by technique, but by memory, curiosity, and care.
