Mominoki Yarn was established in 2017 by Chihiro and her partner Lasse with the hope that their stunning colours are inspiring to knitters all over the world. Chihiro is from Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan and has always loved colour, which inspired her to begin dying yarn in her kitchen. What Chihiro and Lasse love about creating Mominoki Yarn is seeing knitters wearing their durable knits for a long time, where the knitted clothes begin to tell their own story. They are always inspired by the amazing color combinations knitters select for their projects with Mominoki Yarn, which keeps them dreaming about casting on in so many gorgeous colourways.
The word “mominoki” means fir tree in Japanese and symbolises endurance, just like the gorgeous yarns that Mominoki make together with their lovely team. Some of their wool originates from Germany and Finland and is untreated and natural, others are sock yarns which are beautifully soft on the skin. We debuted Mominoki at Stephen & Penelope during our 2020 HKAL and have loved working with them ever since. This year we have curated some stunning kits that show off the wonderfulness of Mominoki and we can’t wait to share them with you!
