In 2021, the Shawlography MKAL brought fascinating textures and splashy color palettes to the needles of thousands of knitters! Five contrasting colors dance throughout the fabric with short rows, I-cord loops, bobbles, welts, slip stitches, and bold stripes. I want to embrace the idea of dancing with yarn, so the five colors mix and mingle throughout the fabric in color solos and duets. When I studied dance in college, I loved improvising with movement and creating dances spontaneously without pre-planning every step. This shawl design highlights that design process of improvising with stitches and embracing the process as you knit without knowing what the final outcome will be. Westknits MKALs are just as much about the process of knitting as they are about achieving a stunning finished work of fiber art.
