About Merino Sock

Dark Omen Yarn’s Merino Sock is a fingering-weight yarn made for knits that are meant to be worn, not just admired. The blend of superwash merino and nylon creates a fabric that’s strong and long-lasting, while still feeling smooth and buttery soft against the skin. It has excellent stitch definition and enough resilience for socks and everyday pieces, without feeling rigid or synthetic.

Hand-dyed in Italy by Francesco, each skein has depth and character, with colourways that feel considered rather than overworked. The colours come alive as you knit, looking just as good in your stitches as they do in the skein. It’s a versatile choice for socks, shawls, lightweight garments and accessories — a beautiful yarn you’ll reach for again and again.

About Dark Omen

Dark Omen Yarn is a distinctive Italian indie yarn brand born in Spotorno from a creative drive to transform inner challenges into beauty through colour and fibre. Each small‑batch skein is hand‑dyed with intention, giving vivid life to repeatable colourways as well as more experimental “Cauldron’s Curses” that arise when inspiration runs wild. At the heart of the brand is a belief that yarn can tell a story — weaving together emotion, imagination, and artisan craftsmanship into every fibre. With a palette that ranges from bold and bright to deep and mysterious, Dark Omen Yarns offers makers unique, expressive hand‑dyed fibres that invite creativity and elevate knitted and crocheted projects with striking colour and character.

Why you'll love Hand Dyed Yarn

Hand dyed yarn is extra special because every skein is one of a kind. There are no batches and no perfectly matched skeins. This is where you can see the artistic point of view of each dye house we work with. Some dyers are quite exact in their repeatable colours while others are quite artistic and splashy, valuing the creation of each skein rather than the closeness of the colourway.

We take great care to photograph our products accurately, and still the unique skeins in your order may look different to the photograph, and they may even look different to each other. If you are using hand dyed yarns and are concerned with dramatic colour changes, when changing from one skein to the next, alternate rows to blend in the new skein.

Care Instructions

Items made from this superwash wool/nylon blend should be washed by hand in cold or lukewarm water with a gentle rinse-free detergent. Wash gently but never wring or twist when washing.
Gently squeeze as much water as possible, roll in a towel and press moisture out. Then lay finished piece flat to dry, blocking to shape.

We recommend washing even superwash wool by hand, as it will extend the life of your precious hand made items!

Benefits of this Yarn

Superwash Wool Nylon blends combine the benefits of 100% natural and sustainable wool with the sturdiness of Nylon. This makes the yarn a good choice for snuggly socks, accessories and garments. This blend results in a durable yet soft finished item.
