February 2021 - SKEINDEER KNITS

Skeindeer Knits is run by Eli - a PhD student and knitting pattern designer. Almost a decade of London living has only increased her nostalgia for traditional-inspired Norwegian knitwear, reflected across her design portfolio.

Her design adventure started with a series of Selbu Mitten patterns that she presented on her knitting podcast, progressing to a collection of garments and other accessories. Her designs are characterised by colourwork and innovative construction, with the goal of creating a traditional-looking garment in a more straightforward and enjoyable way.

As traditional Norwegian knitting patterns often have very sparse instructions and limited size ranges, Eli’s goals have always been to expand the size range offered, incorporate modern techniques like top-down construction and short-row shaping for a better fit, and write instructions in a clear but concise way that can be followed and appreciated by novice knitters and experienced veterans alike. She particularly enjoys knitting with Norwegian yarns - rustic, woolly, and perfect for colourwork and steeking.
