Dear fibre friends,

With COVID-19 developing around the world, and with the current air of uncertainty, we wanted to reach out (without touching hands!) to share how Stephen & Penelope is committed to preventing the spread of the virus. We update this information regularly and this update was written on Friday 3 July.

We're committed to adhere to the advice from WHO and the RIVM, the Dutch Ministry of Health. The well-being of our customers and staff is our absolute priority, we are upholding the highest hygiene and cleaning standards, and our team is being updated daily as the situation develops.

In The Netherlands, restrictions are cautiously lifting. From 1 July, sports schools and gyms have re-opened and many other restrictions are no longer in place. While shops like ours were not advised to close, we made the decision to do so to protect our staff and customers. As our community adjusts to social distancing measures, we are adjusting our opening hours and policies. Our previous limit of three customers in the store at one time has been increased to five customers, as we have found we can accommodate more people while still ensuring 1.5m between everyone.

From Monday 6 July, we return to our standard opening hours, though we are currently not open late on Thursday night.

Our new opening hours are:
MON – FRI: 10:00 – 18:00
SAT: 11:00 – 18:00
SUN: 12:00 – 17:00

  • No more than five customers in the shop at any time. This is to make sure that everyone can keep 1.5 metres between each other at all times.
  • We ask that non-shoppers (friends, partners, children, dogs etc.) please stay home wherever possible, as queues outside our shop and the shops of our neighbours can get busy and the space inside our shop is limited.
  • All customers must use a shopping basket. If there is no shopping basket available, please wait until our staff can sanitise one for you.
  • Please maintain 1.5 metres between yourself and all others, both while in the shop and when queuing outside. We’ve marked 1.5 metre distances to make this easier for you.
  • Hand sanitiser is located by the front door and we encourage you to use it.
  • We are only accepting pin/contactless payments. No cash is accepted at this time.
  • Yarn winding services are not currently offered in-store, as this prolongs contact for our staff. If you place an online order for pick-up, you can still request yarn winding.
  • If you are unwell, please stay home. Our online shop is open 24/7 and we’re always happy to provide yarn consultation by email during business hours, free of charge.

Thank you for the support you’ve shown during this turbulent time, it has meant so much to us. We have missed seeing our lovely customers face to face, and are looking forward to welcoming you back into the store soon.
