Meet  Midori Hirose, our July Designer of the Month. Midori is originally from Japan and she now lives in Northern Germany. She has been a crafter since she was a child, when she was 8 or 9 she went to her first knitting class. Her first project was a garter stitch scarf from pink yarn her grandmother bought her and she still has some leftover in her stash!

Midori has always loved to create her own things when knitting so it was a natural step to start designing. She loves trying out new stitches and constructions when designing, it’s similar to sketching something out but with needles. Most of these never make it into fully fledged designs but her Tulip Cable pattern became the Tulip Guernsey! She is inspired by lots of different areas of her life - the Satawal pattern came from a rustic lace yoke she was in a museum in Madrid and her Twinkle Sweater was inspired by a famous Japanese children’s author.

Midori loves to knit light sweaters with soft textures and drapey fabric – she loves to offer options for her patterns often having samples knit in different fibres or including modifications so there can be something to suit every body.

We’re delighted to be displaying four of Midori’s patterns in store this month -Karelia, Satawal, Tulip Guernsey and the Twinkle Sweater! As well as this we are thrilled to be offering her Twinkle sweater tote bags for sale for the whole of July.
