Based in Århus, Denmark, Sysleriget is a fibre dyeing studio founded in 2015 by Malene. After years of dyeing skeins in her small apartment’s kitchen, Malene moved to a combined workshop/store where all her luxurious skeins are hand-dyed and shipped worldwide.
Malene takes great pleasure and pride in the slow and manual process required to create magnificent products and she does so using high quality fibres only to ensure excellent results when crafting with her yarn.
Malene’s inspiration stems from nature, her children’s drawings, and the colours used by the fashion industry to create a striking colour palette.
The name Sysleriget comes from the local dialect of Malene’s hometown and is derived from the verb ‘at sysle’, loosely translating to ‘to putter’ (to do things in a relaxed manner and without rushing). This is a large part of Malene’s ethos as everything she does comes down to the love of creating and being creative with her hands. The second part of the word Sysleriget - ‘riget’ - means empire, and Sysleriget is therefore Malene’s humble empire of puttering.
